Pollard, Josephine, The Doré Gallery of Bible stories. Illustrating the principal events in the Old and New Testaments, with descriptive text; (New York, W. He was the most celebrated book illustrator of the midth century and was so prolific that at one time he employed more than forty wood engravers. His best-known works are lavishly illustrated editions of literary classics, including Dante's Inferno (), Don Quixote (), and the Bible ()—works that helped to give European currency.
